happy mardi gras!

"solid gold" and "savage" unicorn

well, it's our second (and final) mardi gras in new orleans, so we knew we had to do it right. and by do it right, i don't mean drink ourselves into oblivion (we stopped shy of oblivion, thank god) - i mean COSTUMES! kp and i are definitely not costume-lovers, but the mardi gras st. anne's parade is sacred. you either get dressed or you stay home.

the unicorn collective

he's a noise musician and she's a philosophy professor... only in new orleans

rainbow bright unicorn takes a pat o's hurricane break

a st. anne's giraffe!

stilettos on wheels. nice.

lamp shade on the head!

a yellow submarine?

the traveling drum circle

wow.

a friendly game of twister... why not?

fall 2011, a photo essay

i know i've been remiss on my blogging. but i promise i don't just work ALL the time. i have proof.

1) i go to second line parades (have to take full advantage of these before i move):

dr. jkl came back for a visit - i knew she'd get into the second line

2) i cook and hang out with bob:

3) i travel and have visitors:

summer vacation, part deux (better late than never...)

kp and i celebrated our 5th anniversary a month early by sneaking off to moreton island for our second weekend in brisbane. none of the locals could understand why we'd chosen moreton island over the closer and more bustling stratford island... and after the third night eating at the resort's lone restaurant, we were also wondering... but what we traded in dining options, we more than made up for in desolate beauty. it was really fabulous, and a perfect way to toast the shortest, happiest five years of my life.

wish you were here...

it was too cold for water sports, so we took walks and sat around watching the birds...

celebrating our victory in the dune slide competition - lb won a t-shirt!

dolphin feeding

and whale watching!

we stumbled across a couple of hams on our way back to the resort - they really put on a show!

i think i could get used to this...
