we're off to see the wizard...

tomorrow we leave new orleans for brisbane, australia (via a 10-day layover in big d). kp has a 3-year gig lined up at the university of queensland, so he'll be relocating semi-permanently - it feels especially permanent given that neither of us has lived in the same place for more than 2 years since the late 90s. i'll be back in the fall to teach another year here, so we'll be trying the bi-continental marriage thing... short term, we hope. i've applied for my own funding in OZ, which would allow me to move there as early as january. fingers crossed.

anyway, we'll be living out of suitcases for the next month or so, which is not nearly as exciting as it was when i was 25... sigh.

i'll miss our sweet little pad in new orleans, which won't be the same without kp. and i think he might miss it too... so a few pics, to remind us.

my favorite part about this room (aside from the kitty in the window) is the vintage christmas decorations hanging over the coffee table (see the reflection in the mirror). they were our "tree" this year... then i just loved them so, i couldn't take them down. i'll have to come up with something else for the tree next year...

my grandfather's clock is also a real treasure. and on the table is one of the myriad turquoise vases i bought for our wedding.

over our bed we hang an old school-room sign that says: "next time, let's meet in the middle." it's become a family motto of sorts.

there's a lot of uncle ho in our office. it occurs to me now that it's sort of strange.

the other side of the room is graced with a map of paris and family pictures, including 2 photos of mary byron (kp's mama) as a young lass. so sweet.

picture #6: "two hours in vancouver"
location: vancouver, ca
year: 2011
description: once upon a time i had two hours to kill in downtown vancouver, so naturally i went to china town and the tracks. not only did i make it home with a new bowl and some groovy chinese postcards, but i got this pretty pastel picture too. i love it when hard, industrial subjects produce the softest, sweetest images. i give myself a B for composition, but my camera gets an A for capturing the spring green of the grass coming up between the tracks. this one just makes me happy.

favorite photos 4 and 5

picture #s 4 and 5: "put a little love in your heart"
location: venice, ca
year: 2011
description: my cousin married the most beautiful woman this past weekend, and kp and i were there to see it. the ceremony was perfect - full of laughter, tears, and spicy cocktails... i didn't get any pictures, but i did snap a few of their venice pad one winter's eve not long ago that will make fine substitutes. great lines and full of warmth - just like k & c!

picture #3: "a few hours to london"
location: gare du nord, paris
year: 2009
description: i love the expanse of the roof broken into a thousand tiny pieces by the glass panes. in fact, the whole photo is a study in fractures and divided space - not a smooth surface to be found... i added the sepia to give it a hint of nostalgia.

favorite photo series

dear readers,

now, i've not heard anything from either of you, but i know what you're thinking: "lb's really dropped the ball lately. she hardly ever posts anymore." it's true, and i've let you down. it's not necessarily that my life is boring or that i don't take pictures anymore... well, actually... i don't know. i just get distracted.

but summer promises new adventures, and i promise to document them here. in the meantime, i'm going to start a new series: favorite photos. i've got thousands of pics on my iphoto, some of which are actually pretty groovy. so, why not post them?? why not, indeed!

picture #1: "after the dishes were done"
