tomorrow we leave new orleans for brisbane, australia (via a 10-day layover in big d). kp has a 3-year gig lined up at the university of queensland, so he'll be relocating semi-permanently - it feels especially permanent given that neither of us has lived in the same place for more than 2 years since the late 90s. i'll be back in the fall to teach another year here, so we'll be trying the bi-continental marriage thing... short term, we hope. i've applied for my own funding in OZ, which would allow me to move there as early as january. fingers crossed.
anyway, we'll be living out of suitcases for the next month or so, which is not nearly as exciting as it was when i was 25... sigh.
i'll miss our sweet little pad in new orleans, which won't be the same without kp. and i think he might miss it too... so a few pics, to remind us.
my favorite part about this room (aside from the kitty in the window) is the vintage christmas decorations hanging over the coffee table (see the reflection in the mirror). they were our "tree" this year... then i just loved them so, i couldn't take them down. i'll have to come up with something else for the tree next year...
my grandfather's clock is also a real treasure. and on the table is one of the myriad turquoise vases i bought for our wedding.
over our bed we hang an old school-room sign that says: "next time, let's meet in the middle." it's become a family motto of sorts.
there's a lot of uncle ho in our office. it occurs to me now that it's sort of strange.
the other side of the room is graced with a map of paris and family pictures, including 2 photos of mary byron (kp's mama) as a young lass. so sweet.
