jellies and jubes and jellies and jubes!

when we weren't out exploring, we watched a bit of aussie tv, including australian top chef. it was on almost nightly, i think. we saw at least 5 episodes, one of which was a pastry competition. two of the final three contestants had to battle for their spot on the finale by making ginger bread houses. from scratch! and throughout the entire episode, these two gals kept referring to their lollies, jellies, and jubes. and kp and i had no idea what they were talking about. of course, the context helped, so we figured it had something to do with candy... but just what is a "jelly," and how does it differ from a "jube?"

turns out, it doesn't matter. and i still don't know the answer to that one. but i do know that i'm a fan of both! there just so happens to be a lolly store on campus ("lolly," i've determined, is both the generic word for candy and a lolly-pop), where they sell ALL KINDS of fabulously bright and sugar-coated delights. think gummy bears on steroids! and in bulk!! so, you just grab a bag and go to town! i don't know, maybe this exists in the states too, and i just didn't realize... but i was hooked.

lollies and jellies and jubes, oh my!

the picture would have been much better if i'd been able to stop eating off the plate... i may have even taken the time to find some decent light. but i knew that if it didn't happen at this precise moment, it wasn't going to happen. and since these jellies and jubes were all i talked about for a good two or three days, i figured they had to make it onto the blog.

ps, if anyone know where i can find bulk jellies and jubes in the u.s., i'm all ears (get it? see the ears on the left side of the plate?? there were more... but i'd already eaten them by this point).
